Part-Time Custodian-Museum, $18.16/Hour.  Duties will include performing routine building maintenance, cleaning tasks and other duties as assigned at the Sioux City Public Museum.  Requires good physical condition. This is a permanent part-time weekend position with approximately 10-12 hours per week.  Applications will be taken until position filled.

Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Under supervision to perform semi-skilled work required in the routine maintenance of various buildings, offices and facilities and adjoining grounds, walkways and sidewalks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF POSITION

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Clean offices, buildings, conference rooms, hallways, stairways, elevators and related areas.
  • Mop, sweep, strip, wax, buff and vacuum floors; clean carpeting.
  • Wash and clean walls, windows, stairs and handrails.
  • Pick up paper, trash and other debris around buildings and grounds.
  • Insure building security, open and lock facilities.
  • Operate small snow blower and shovel snow.
  • Polish and dust furniture, wood railings, etc.
  • Drive vehicle to deliver and pick up various parcels and correspondence, and occasionally operate light equipment.
  • Clean and sanitize restroom facilities, sinks, toilets and floors.
  • Make minor repairs to buildings and equipment, change light bulbs, adjust thermostats, etc.
  • Raise and lower flags.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, City officials and regulatory personnel.
Preferred Skills

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Prefer some prior work experience in building cleaning and maintenance or any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Skill in cleaning, waxing and buffing activities which result in a professional condition and appearance of facilities. Ability to work alone and without close supervision.

Language Ability and Interpersonal Communication

Requires effective communication skills and the ability to provide effective and courteous assistance to customers (external and internal). Requires the ability to speak effectively with fellow employees and customers; read in English and directions on cleaning supplies and chemicals; apply common sense understanding to the work process, procedures, programs and services; and to follow verbal and written instructions.
